a challenging quote:

"The safest place for ships is in the harbor,
but that's not why ships were built."
-Anonymous

Now would this be more reflective of purpose, identity or both?

I remember my youth pastor using this exact quote. His purpose was different than yours because he was using it in his teaching as motivation/guilt trip for us to proselytize others.

However, regarding your question, I understand our identity in God to be fully loved and accepted - always in the safe harbor. But our purpose is in action through offering love and acceptedness to others - out of the harbor, since it usually involves sacrifice, work, and vulnerability.
